How to Travel without Traveling

Pandemic is not the only time that I have felt the need to find ways to travel without traveling. Since I have always been in a day job, it is not possible for me to travel full time or visit a destination whenever I feel like it.

So, what to do to feed this hunger for travel?

Here are some of my ways, which you might already know about and have already done so unknowingly. But if not, then give it a try.

Follow YouTube channels

Nothing can beat the enthusiasm of watching someone talk about a place that you want to visit. The way they show around and explain all the tiny bits of details is just so good. Following their journey feels like researching in a way. Especially when they are featuring a destination that is on your bucket list. I usually get so hooked upon them that I don’t realize how much time I have spent watching videos back to back.

Here is a list of travel vlog channels that I adore and follow:

Read Travel Blogs

Reading has its own charm altogether. Not everyone is fond of watching videos. There are many of us, like me, who love to read blogs and visualize all that is there to be. They are the reason I started this blog in hopes of fulfilling the travel urge and helping others in their quest. The minute details mentioned in a single experience of the traveler are pretty mesmerizing.

Some of my all-time favorite travel blogs:

Grow your Bucket list

Oh, the fun in looking up new destinations to visit. Even though it is not in the near future, the excitement is not less. When I search for a place and just browse through all the places to visit at that destination, I literally get butterflies in my stomach.

My current bucket list places:

  • Andaman and Nicobar Islands
  • Japan
  • Mauritius
  • Seychelles
  • Greece

Plan your next Trip

Once you are done with deciding on the places you want to visit, it’s time to start planning. And plan in a way as if you are actually going to take that trip in the next coming days. Write down all the options of stay, tourist spots, foods you want to try, flight options, and every possible expense. Get down to the tiniest detail.

Right after my trip to Himachal Pradesh and my first ever trek, I have been obsessed with planning another trek, but this time somewhere in Maharashtra. Even though I don’t know when I would be able to go on this trek, but the excitement is still the same. This is literally my best way to travel without traveling.

Watch Travel Movies/ Documentaries

Similar to following and watching travel YouTube channels, this is another way to travel without traveling if you are more into watching videos. There is a huge collection of movies that either focuses on travelers and their journey or simply a storyline that covers many destinations. And a huge round of applause for those travel documentaries out there.

Some of the best travel movies I have watched are:

Read Travel Books

Another way to feel the thrill of traveling along with gathering information about places is by reading travel books. Now this includes both fictions as well as non-fiction such as guides. The best way I feel is to subscribe to travel magazines. They send you new editions at intervals talking about various destinations across the globe.

  • The Art of Travel
  • Lonely Planet guides
  • CNTraveller magazine subscription

I believe that if you love to do something, you will find different ways to do it, no matter what.
